Lately I have been bombarded by viruses that people have brought in on their computers. The Microsoft security 2011 virus that acts like it is protecting your system is a hard one to get off. Once your computer is infected by a virus is such as that it is hard to make it secure where it will not come back again. nearly every virus leaves behind something that will harm your system or security. With that said I highly recommend a very good virus protection program. Microsoft has a very good free virus scanner called Microsoft security essentials. So far in my personal testing it has been very good. it has missed 1 virus on my home pc and a few customers have had a virus get past it. 99 percent of time it is because it is 1 of the viruses that you click on to make it activate. If you do get infected first run your Microsoft security essentials virus scanner. If that does not work you can use another program from Microsoft that works directly off of a web page. I would also run a program called malwarebytes. It is my highest rated anti spyware program available. The best part is that it is free also. If you cannot get the virus off by the 3 things mentioned here you need to investigate further or take it to a technician such as myself. always ask pricing before you take your computer to certain places. Best Buy charged one of my customers 200 dollars to take off a very simple virus. It could have been removed free of charge if they would have downloaded malware bytes. My typical charge is 25 dollars for a virus removal. Some viruses will leave your system so badly damaged that you will need to reinstall your operating system. Always keep your virus protection updated.

If your going to buy an Anti-Virus program I suggest Symantec.

Always keep a backup of your important data such as pictures.

Hunting from a wheelchair can be done without much fuss. I have met countless people with disabilities over the years that ended up with them using a wheelchair. Hunting is a common ground where several just stop and no longer hunt. With a few modifications you can be out in the woods pursuing game in no time.

8-Point Whitetail deer by Crossbow from a wheelchair in a blind.

Your injury will be the starting point. If you are a Paraplegic and have full use of your arms and hands your likely already hunting. If you have fingers that do not work there starts the process of finding what will make it work for you. There are devices of all types on the market that may do everything you need but are not always budget friendly.

Using a bent clothes hanger can pull the trigger if your finger cannot move.
With limited use you can always try an EZ-Trigger which reduces the trigger pull to a minimal amount.

Holding a gun or crossbow can be difficult without stomach muscles. Try elevating your chair back some and use your elbow against the arm rest or your knee area.
If that is still too much try and make a brace that goes from one side of your chair to the other that you can use to balance the weapon on. Most chair have spots where things can be mounted on fairly easily with a little work. There are many style available for sale that velcro or attach and detach very easily.

Terrain is my most difficult aspect. Even with a power chair you cannot always access the spot you want. If all else fails call your local Conservation agency and they will attempt to help. Places such as Caney Mountain Conservation Area have people there working for all of us and will be glad to do whatever they can to get you an accessible hunt. Some will even drag a deer out for you and load it. You never know until you ask.

Many states have "Managed Hunts" where disabled hunters can have up to a week in areas to hunt before the regular firearms seasons. Some areas are in animal refuges where the do population control via hunts where x-amount of people draw a tag to go hunting there at a speciffic date. These are typically prized hunting grounds and help is only a call away.

Always attempt to have a buddy with you while hunting or at the very least have a cell phone with reception the entire time.

Got questions? Post a reply and I will cover more areas in detail.

After testing the Barnett Quad 400 with many different arrows / bolts the conclusion is to go with Carbon Fiber as recommended. The several different types of 2219's did have success at fair flight and accuracy but the Carbon Fiber Arrows out preformed them. With a quad 400 you need 22" Arrows / Bolts with a moon nock. I purchased several of the "Heavy Hitters" "By Harvest Time Archery. Ohioduckman on eBay had the best price on the net and flethched to presicion. You can get 6 for 36.00 or more for a little less. Hitting the same hole at 75 yards will get your attention quickly when 2219's are inches apart. I do admit 2219's with a perfect fletch might meet the standards but in every situation we put them through the CF Arrows out preformed.

Using Lumenocks on them with Rage 125 grain Slip Cam Broadheads will make a perfect combo yet looking at a 26.00 shot can sometimes be daunting. Upside though with Lumenocks you are likely to find your arrow. Downside is if the mechanical broadhead gets destroyed your still out 12.00 unless you fix it.

Make sure when shooting the quad 400 or other 345 feet per second or better crossbows that you get a good target such as the Big Green Target or others that can stop the arrows. Arrows will fly right through foam targets and mess up your fletching.

After driving through Caney Mountain Conservation Area in Ozark County, Missouri; I picked out some hotspots for disabled hunters for the fall managed hunts for deer. The food plots are growing good and finding a half-level ground area for wheelchairs took awhile. Recommended places for blinds would be near the following.

#5 as seen in the pictures. Good long field for a rifle and a back area for bows / crossbows. My thoughts were to park before or after it and wheel along the edge of the field. The woods on both sides have 50 yards of sight with the leaves on in certain areas.

#6 Food Plot also has a level area with a good view. It has not been planted yet but between easy road side access and the drop offs on each side you can get quite the view of the plot and wooded area.

#20-21 is a very good looking spot for getting the best view for up to 200 yards. Located on Longs Bald the hill comes down and there is a spot to park. Open tree area (you can see very well) in the south-east direction with the food plots below you. Also nearly anywhere in that location would be a good place to be able to "wheel in". I think its more of a muzzleloader area than bow but not if you can find the right spot.

#24 going behind the plot could be done and also have good viewing. From parking to sitting my GPS said 220 yards. Not recommended if the ground is soft from rain.

Almost any of the #20-#30 plots are a good option. Each has a downfall torwards wheelchairs but they are very promising spots that you must see in person.

Other areas of interest;

#2 Corn area with some accessibility. 30-50 yard shooting; Beside road.

#3 can be accessed but limited to low stance sitting.

#7 is a another area but hugs the road and limited on terrain.

#8 is back in a hollow which looked good from the road but I didn't go back into it but there is a road leading back that looked chair friendly.

#9 long and next to the road.

#11 is in a hollow and looks promising. Chairs couldn't get to far from the road though.

#12 gives a 100 yard shot but right on the road.

#25 limited sight but good possiblities.

#28 is a long shooting area. Fairly accessible.

#29 is a long shooting area.

#30 gives 100 yards of shooting area and accessibility.

#33 is by the road but looked accessible with minor adjustments.

Download Google Earth to explore Caney Mountain without leaving your home.

Click the picture to get a good view of some of the area.

GPS Coordinates; 36,40',36.86"N , 92,23',36.72 W ELEVATION 981

All of these are recommendations only. Do not just show up expecting a perfect trail for a wheelchair. Visit Caney Mountain and look around yourself. Almost guaranteed to see lots of wildlife and some nice views of the ozarks. There is 7,899 Acres to cover so pack a lunch. Trails are marked that 4×4 vehicles are recommended. I will be heading back with another person where I can go further off-road without getting hung-up.

When your computer just gives you a Black Screen with a blinking cursor your most typical fix is here. You will need your Windows Installation Disk to access the Recovery Console. You will also need the administrator password.

If your computer is running XP these instructions are exact. Any other such as Vista or Windows 7 have different steps but pretty much the same.

First turn o your computer and insert the Windows Installation disk. If done quick enough it will say “Press any key to boot from cd.”. if not quick enough simply turn it off then back on. If you do not receive the “Press any key” area you will need to set your boot option as CD/DVD First, then reboot.

After pressing a key it will start loading. When it is done you have the option to “Repair” and you press “R”. It will then ask which installation of Windows to log into which most will be 1. Enter the number 1 and then type in the password.

Most of the time you do not need to run CHKDSK but you can just to be sure your computer hard drive is in good shape. If you want to run it type in “CHKDSK /R” without quotes and it will scan and repair disk errors.

Next we need to fix the boot up by typing in “Fixboot” then once done type in “Fixmbr”. This should rebuild your Windows boot up procedures. If not go the extra distance and type in “BOOTCFG /REBUILD” and type in “Windows” then in the next prompt type in “/fastdetect”.

Type exit and it will reboot. Remove your cd and Windows should load.

Information on the above commands are in detail here and on the Windows Support Site.

To use the Recovery Console, you will need a Windows installation disc.

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to run the computer in Recovery Console. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure. If you encounter this problem, you should contact the network administrator.

When you use the Windows Recovery Console, you can obtain limited access to the NTFS file system, FAT, and FAT32 volumes without starting the Windows graphical user interface (GUI). In the Windows Recovery Console, you can perform the following actions:

Use, copy, rename, or replace operating system files and folders

Enable or disable service or device startup the next time that you start your computer

Repair the file system boot sector or the master boot record (MBR)

Create and format partitions on drives

When you use the Windows Recovery Console, you can use only the following items:

The root folder

The %SystemRoot% folder and the subfolders of the Windows installation that you are currently logged on to

The Cmdcons folder

The removable media drives such as the CD drive or the DVD drive

After you start the Windows Recovery Console, you receive the following message:

Microsoft Windows(R) Recovery Console

The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.
Type EXIT to exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

		1: C:\WINDOWS

Which Windows Installation would you like to log on to ?
(To cancel, press ENTER)

Available commands within Windows Recovery Console

attrib del fixboot more set

   batch delete fixmbr mkdir systemroot

   bootcfg dir format more type

   cd disable help net

   chdir diskpart listsvc rd

   chkdsk enable logon ren

   cls exit map rename

   copy expand md rmdir

Chkdsk

Creates and displays a status report for the disk. The chkdsk command also lists and corrects errors on the disk.

The chkdsk command with the parameters listed below is only available when you are using the Recovery Console The chkdsk command with different parameters is available from the command prompt.

chkdsk [drive:] [/p] [/r]

Parameters

none

Used without parameters, chkdsk displays the status of the disk in the current drive.

drive :

Specifies the drive that you want chkdsk to check.

/p

Performs an exhaustive check even if the drive is not marked for chkdsk to run. This parameter does not make any changes to the drive.

/r

Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information. Implies /p.

Note

The chkdsk command requires the file Autochk.exe. If it cannot find it in the startup directory (\%systemroot%\System32, by default), it will attempt to locate it on the Windows Installation CD. If you have a multiboot computer, be sure you are issuing this command from the drive containing Windows

The bootcfg command is a Microsoft Windows XP Recovery Console command that manipulates the Boot.ini file. This command has a function that can scan your hard disks for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows XP installations, and then add them to an existing Boot.ini file. The function can also rebuild a new Boot.ini file if one does not exist. With the bootcfg command, additional Boot.ini file parameters can be added to existing or new entries.

To use the bootcfg command, start the Recovery Console with the Windows XP CD-ROM, and then click Recovery Console. Or, install the Recovery Console locally, and then select the command from the Boot menu.

The bootcfg command has the following uses:

FIXBOOT

fixboot <var>drive name</var>:

Use this command to write the new Windows boot sector code on the system partition. In the command syntax, <var>drive name</var> is the drive letter where the boot sector will be written. This command fixes damage in the Windows boot sector. This command overrides the default setting, which writes to the system boot partition. The fixboot command is supported only on x86-based computers.

FIXMBR

fixmbr <var>device name</var>

Use this command to repair the MBR of the boot partition. In the command syntax, <var>device name</var> is an optional device name that specifies the device that requires a new MBR. Use this command if a virus has damaged the MBR and Windows cannot start.

Warning This command can damage your partition tables if a virus is present or if a hardware problem exists. If you use this command, you may create inaccessible partitions. We recommend that you run antivirus software before you use this command.

You can obtain the device name from the output of the map command. If you do not specify a device name, the MBR of the boot device is repaired, for example:

fixmbr \device\harddisk2

If the fixmbr command detects an invalid or non-standard partition table signature, fixmbr command prompts you for permission before it rewrites the MBR. The fixmbr command is supported only on x86-based computers.

I was working on a Dell 2400 series that just about made me look for help. It came to me because of a lightning strike to it. I replaced the motherboard, chip, ram and after everything was set I started the computer and got “Device 0 not found”. That was a simple BIOS change to say there was no Floppy Drive. Set it to Not Installed, rebooted, and got “Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup”.

This was a little confusing considering the circumstances. It simply was not finding the hard drive. It acted like it was not there.

The fix; while its at the “Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup” screen hit ALT+TAB+F. This redoes the IDE Configuration and will solve the issue of the drive not being seen. You might still have to reset the BIOS by putting a jumper on the two pins by the battery and turning on the computer. It will just be a black screen, then hold in your power button till it shuts off. Turn the computer back on and it my go back to the above error(s) but just use the above fix; ALT+TAB+F and you will be up and running.

I recently purchased the Barnett Quad 400 Crossbow with a 4×32 Multi-Reticle scope. I must say that it does have an amazing amount of power and the arrow / bolt speeds are 345 feet per second. Unlike the recurve xbow I had before there is little drop and the bolt speed is so fast you cannot see it fly. At the advertised 345FPS at 28 yards the bolt would be in contact at a 1/4th of a second which is the fastest body reaction by a deer. This gives a much higher success rate of hitting where you aim instead of hoping the game in question doesn’t move while the arrow is in flight.

I also purchased the Crank Device that inserts into the stock for easy cocking. With the crank it is easy to cock the bow however the ratchet release is not exactly the easiest to work with. There is also no good place to attach or place the hook end of the crank device so I lay mine behind the scope or under the stock when not in use.

Accuracy will be updated soon. I have shot it a lot but not with a rest and I am still getting used to the heavy crossbow. It weighs 9 pounds without the quiver, scope, or other accessories. So far I am in a 2 inch grouping but that is off-hand and shooting from a wheelchair.

Wheelchair users and other people with disabilities would like this crossbow simply for the ease of cocking with the crank that is in the stock. Unlike all the other bow companies this mechanism stays in the stock and does not need to be removed to shoot or store. It states that it does not take more than 16 pounds of force to turn the crank at the peak load. I have not scaled it but seems to be correct considering I can use it. The cranks release is a little hard to get used to but I think I will put a plastic coating on it and it should be much more tolerable.

Where to buy? I suggest Ebay if you’re on a budget. You can buy a refurbished Quad 400 for 230-350 dollars that has a scope, quiver, and 4 bolts. Be very careful to watch the fine print in the auctions. Bass Pro and the others seem to be running from 390.00 – 500.00 dollars for the kit.

After around 50 shots I am giving it a big 4.5 out of 5 stars.
