Thanksgiving travel is already a stress casserole. The last thing you need is a fake “payment problem” email that looks like it came from the airline that actually has your seat.

Travel writers at Live and Let’s Fly (Nov. 2–3) and Travelers Today (Nov. 4) rounded up passenger reports: two main flavors of fake Frontier mail.

One says you’re owed a refund, but only after you “confirm” the card on file. The other claims there’s a payment problem with an upcoming trip—classic urgency bait for anyone flying soon. Both push you to links that are not on Frontier’s real domain.

Frontier’s own phishing awareness page is blunt: the company does not email customers requesting flight, reservation, payment, or contact details. If a message asks you to re-enter a card or click to “confirm” billing, treat it like a raccoon in a tuxedo. Fancy costume. Still a raccoon.

Airline booking codes (often called PNRs) were built for convenience, not Fort Knox. Pair a six-character code with a last name and you can often pull up a reservation. So when a scammer pastes your code next to your cities and dates, your brain short-circuits: “How would a random stranger know that?”

Answer: they shouldn’t. Which is exactly why this campaign is scarier than the usual “Dear Valued Passenger” spam. A correct detail is not proof the sender is Frontier. It’s proof someone got access to reservation-shaped data somehow—breach, partner leak, compromised inbox, insider misuse, or older stolen records recycled into a new campaign. Public reporting has not pinned down the source.

Frontier disclosed a separate October 2, 2026 security incident involving its customer care database and info submitted through a customer care form, according to travel press summarizing a Massachusetts AG notification. That disclosure does not prove a link to this phishing wave. A class-action complaint in Colorado also alleges earlier 2026 incidents. Treat those as unfinished stories, not settled facts tying every fake email to one leak.

The practical takeaway doesn’t wait on the lawsuit: don’t trust the email just because it knows your trip.

If you’re flying Frontier—or sharing a booking with family—this hits wallet and stress at the same time.

Even if you didn’t book Frontier this month, the playbook travels. Other airlines get copycat campaigns. The habit you build here—never enter a card from an email link—pays rent everywhere.

Use Frontier’s own rules as your checklist. The airline says it will never contact you to:

Extra smell tests that help in the wild:

When in doubt, open a fresh browser tab and type flyfrontier.com, or use the Frontier app you already installed from a real app store. Log in. Look at the booking. If everything looks fine there, the scary email can go in the trash with yesterday’s boarding-group anxiety.

If you only got the email and didn’t click: Delete or mark as phishing. Open Frontier’s site or app yourself to confirm your trip is still happy. You’re done. Go drink water.

If you clicked but didn’t enter anything: Close the tab. Don’t return via history. Run a quick look at your Frontier account password—change it if you reuse that password anywhere else. Watch for follow-up texts pretending to be “fraud prevention.”

If you entered card or bank details: Call the number on the back of your card (not a number from the email) and report suspected fraud. Ask to freeze or replace the card. Monitor statements for a couple of weeks. If you use a digital wallet, remove the old card once the new one arrives.

If you shared a Frontier password or account: Change the password on Frontier’s official site, turn on any available extra login protection, and sign out other sessions if the account offers that.

Frontier’s customer line listed on the phishing page is 801-401-9000 for questions—but payment-card cleanup still starts with your bank, not the airline chat bot.

None of that requires a cybersecurity degree. It just requires treating “urgent refund” the way you treat a stranger who somehow knows your dog’s name and wants your debit PIN.

Frontier has confirmed the campaign. Passengers and travel blogs say the bait includes real booking details. Frontier says it will not email you for card re-entry or refund “verification.” Until someone publishes a clear root-cause report, assume scammers can sound eerily personal—and verify everything through the official site or app.

Your confirmation code is not a hall pass. It’s a detail. Details can leak. Your card number shouldn’t follow.

Prefer the short version of tech and travel gotchas?
